PEC247: Physical and Inorganic Chemistry
Concepts of physical and inorganic chemistry underlie much of biology, engineering, medicine and chemistry. This unit introduces a number of important topics that contribute to this branch of chemistry, including phases of matter, fundamentals of gases and liquids, chemical kinetics, metal-ligand interactions, surfaces and surface processes. Attention is drawn to the application of the concepts to industrial, biological and pharmaceutical chemistry and extractive metallurgical processes.

| Prerequisites | PEC114 Chemistry for Biological Sciences or PEC115 Chemistry for Environmental Science or PEC116 Chemistry for Physical Sciences or PEC144 Chemical Principles; MAS182 Applied Mathematics or MAS161 Calculus and Matrix Algebra or MAS183 Statistical Data Analysis and Databases.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.

| Exclusions | Students who have successfully completed PEC317 Physics of Materials may not enrol in this unit for credit.
Chemistry and Extractive Metallurgy major students who wish to also complete the requirements for a Physics major should consult the Physics Academic Chair.
