MID605: High Risk Neonatal Nursery Care (Not available in 2010)

This unit looks at the history of neonatal nursing and changes that have enhanced provision of care for neonates today.
Students will explore causes for preterm births and identify potential risk factors encountered in the preterm neonate. Students will develop assessment skills used for the high-risk newborn and identify appropriate outcomes for the infant and family. Care will focus on stabilising the high-risk infants by integrating knowledge and skills of the needs of the infant with nursing process.

MID501 Anatomy and Physiology for Midwifery Practice; MID502 Family and Cultural Community Midwifery Care; MID503 Transitional Midwifery Practice 1; MID601 Midwifery Sociology and Contemporary Care; NUR610 Bioethics and Law for Nursing and Health Care Leadership; MID602 Transition to Midwifery Practice 2. Corequisite: MID615 High Risk Neonatal Nursery Care Practicum.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.
