MID603: Immunisation (Not available in 2010)

This unit introduces the role of the midwife in preventative health and looks at the history of immunisation and explores the childhood diseases we prevent with the current Australian vaccination program. The importance of immunity during the pre-conceptual, antenatal and postnatal periods will be highlighted, thus developing the role of the midwife as an educator in primary health care. While on clinical placement students will gain the knowledge of planning, protocols and procedures required to manage an immunisation program.
