MID501: Anatomy and Physiology for Midwifery Practice (Not available in 2010)

Students will develop an understanding of the events that occur prior to conception and during embryological development of the foetus. The students will gain knowledge of the female anatomy and the complex physiological adaptations and changes that must occur to support the developing pregnancy. To provide midwifery care in the postpartal period the student will understand the adaptation of the breast to lactogenesis and the physiology of the puerperium as retrogressive changes occur to the organs of reproduction.
