MCC231: Narrating the Nation: Media, Identity, Culture (Not available in 2010)

Nations and national identity form and evolve over time, but what are the ways of constructing the nation not only to its constituent citizens but also international audiences?
This unit considers the shifting array of media and cultural forms promoted by government, industry and communities to develop, maintain and challenge assumptions about homogenising modes of national identity. Drawing from national cinemas, television, arts and culture, the Australian nation-state will be examined and contrasted with that of other territories.
