MAS230: Biostatistical Methods

Biostatistics is concerned with the collection, summarisation, analysis and interpretation of data arising in the life and health sciences. This unit builds on introductory statistical work, emphasising practical methods relevant to biological and health applications. These include design and analysis of simple experiments and clinical trials, lifetable methods, assessment of risk factors, analysis of categorical data and a brief introduction to failure-time analyses. Practical aspects are enhanced via regular workshop analyses and a small project.

Prerequisites	M180/MAS180 Introduction to Statistics or M183/MAS183 Statistical Data Analysis and Databases or M184/MAS184 Biostatistics and Information Retrieval. Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.
