LLM539: Shipping Law (Not available in 2010)

This unit provides an overview of the law applicable to the commercial trade of shipping. It deals with the legal relationships brought about during carriage of goods by sea, including bills of lading, waybills, and the various types of charter parties. The unit considers the complex matrix created by custom, principles of common law (such as tort, contract and bailment) and civil law, international conventions and the laws of individual nations in governing this important area of commercial trade.
