LAW325: Comparative Law

This unit introduces students to the methodology of comparative law and to the basic structures and principles of selected major legal systems. It will concentrate on the main characteristics of the civil law system, as exemplified by German and French law. Students will be introduced to a comparative approach of studying law, enabling them to draw useful conclusions for their future legal career.

Prerequisites

L120/LEG120/LAW120 Research and Writing, L150/LEG150/LAW150 Australian Legal System, L152/LAW152 Torts, L130/LAW130 Criminal Law and Procedure, L260/LAW260 Contract.

Exclusions

Students who have completed LAW3002: Special Topics in Law: Comparative Law may not enrol in this unit for credit.

Notes

The SP8 enrolment option for this unit is offered as part of the European Summer Program in Law, hosted at the University of Macerata, Italy.
Enrolment in this program is by application to the program Director, and applications require payment of a non-refundable deposit.
Students enrolling in the program are responsible for their own airfares, accommodation and incidental expenses during the program.
