KAC071: Study of Society and Politics

Aim: to introduce students to the study of society, its institutions and structures. Topics: family and networks of friends, the political system, work, leisure, tourism, immigration, ethnicity and race. Students will be encouraged to use their everyday experience of Australian society and politics along with the tools of inquiry to begin looking beyond the taken-for-granted views that are held. A key objective will be to introduce students to the key terminology used to represent and understand the dynamics of society.

Assessment	An award of Ungraded Pass or Fail is awarded for this unit.

Prerequisites	This unit is restricted to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students entering the Kulbardi Aboriginal Tertiary Entrance Course (KATEC).
