ICT120: Principles of Data Communications

Optimisation of Local Area Networks using advanced IP addressing schemes, advanced routing protocols such as OSPF and EIGRP and through the implementation of fully switched LAN architectures. Explore Wide Area Network (WAN) technologies including the use of modems, ISDN and Frame relay to connect corporate sites. Plan and document a major network design, including aspects of IP addressing, LAN and WAN design, network routing protocols. Examine Voice Over IP (VOIP) concepts with regards to deploying it in a communications network.

Prerequisites	ICT103 Introduction to Data Communications; completion of Cisco Systems Networking Academy CCNA1 and CCNA2 modules.
Exclusions	Students who have successfully completed C235/ICT235 Advanced Business Data Communications may not enrol in this unit for credit.
Notes	Upon completion of this unit the student will be equipped to sit for the Cisco CCNA Certification, the examination for which is administered by an organisation independent of Murdoch University.
