ICT102: Introduction to Computer Science

This unit introduces key aspects of computer science including data storage and manipulation, and problem solving using a high-level programming language. Topics: the components of a modern computer system; fundamental concepts of data storage; function of operating systems; algorithms and problem solving; fundamental aspects of a programming language including data types, input/output, simple selection and iteration control structures, procedural and data abstraction, one-dimensional arrays, strings and concept of files.

Prerequisites	Nil. Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.
Exclusions	Students who have successfully completed G108/ENG108 Engineering Computing I may not enrol in this unit for credit.
