HIS234: Historical Mysteries of the Modern World (Not available in 2010)

What caused the disastrous loss of Sir John Franklin's Expedition in the Arctic in the late 1840s? Who was Jack the Ripper? Why did Nazi leader Rudolf Hess fly to Britain in 1941? These are some of the mysteries examined in this unit, which seeks to develop students' research, analytical and reporting/writing skills. The mysteries are examined within their broad historical contexts.
Assessment includes a major research essay and an end-of-semester exam.
