HIS224: Rebirth of Europe 1945-2001 (Not available in 2010)

This unit traces the political, social and economic history of Europe through its post war crisis and decline to its present day resurgence. Critical events in the history of individual states will be discussed alongside major transnational topics including the cold war and its aftermath; the growth and later erosion of the welfare state; the impact on Europe of decolonisation and postcolonial immigration; social tensions including domestic terrorism; supranationalism and the creation of the European Union.
