ENV520: Principles of Environmental Impact Assessment

This unit teaches the theories of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), focusing on the policy and procedures involved. The origin, history and continuing evolution of EIA are covered from the perspective of both Australian and international practice. The role of EIA as both a planning and management tool along with strategic environmental assessment and sustainability assessment are covered. The preparation and review of various EIA documents including environmental management programs are covered. The political nature of environmental decision-making is considered.
