ENG352: Energy Supply Systems

An introduction to the design and operation of energy conversion and supply systems. The focus is principally on small to medium scale energy systems currently in use in Australia. Key areas covered include engine-based RAPS systems, hybrid systems, photovoltaic systems, wind power systems and solar thermal systems. Co-generation systems, fuel cells and microhydro systems are also considered. Practical sessions are used to illustrate the concepts from the lectures.

Contact Time

Lectures: 2 hours per week; workshops: 1 hour per week; laboratories: 3 hours per week.

Prerequisites

PEC152 Principles of Physics; MAS161 Calculus and Matrix Algebra; ENG262 Principles of Electronic Instrumentation.
Co-requisite ENG267 Control Systems and Process Dynamics.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.

Exclusions

Students cannot complete this unit and PEC390 Energy Systems for credit.
