ENG349: Power Electronic Converters and Systems

The unit introduces power electronic converters and systems. It covers modern power semiconductor devices, uncontrolled, semi-controlled and PWM rectifiers, AC voltage controllers, DC-DC converters, PWM inverters, variable speed DC and AC drives, volts/Hz speed control, field-oriented control in AC machines. A wide range of industrial applications of power electronic systems is presented.

Prerequisites

ENG243 Circuits and Systems II; ENG262 Principles of Electronic Instrumentation.
Co-requisite MAS261 Mathematical Methods.
