ENG267: Control Systems and Process Dynamics

This unit provides the foundations in the dynamics, modelling and control of process-oriented systems. Topics: concepts of process control, system components; elements of dynamic analysis, Laplace Transform; process models, transfer functions; low order, second order and time delay systems; stability; feedback control; PID controller, tuning; sampled data systems; discrete time systems, tools, analysis; digital controllers, hybrid systems. Simulink, MATLAB and LabVIEW are used extensively in problem solving, simulations and perform measurement/control in the instrumentation and control laboratory.

Prerequisites	Medical Engineering students: PEC152 Principles of Physics; MAS161 Calculus and Matrix Algebra or co-requisite MAS208 Mathematical Modelling. For students not studying Medical Engineering: PEC152 Principles of Physics; MAS161 Calculus and Matrix Algebra or co-requisite MAS208 Mathematical Modelling; ENG109 Computing for Scientists and Engineers.
