EGL328: Understanding Poetry

This unit introduces students to the study of poetry, covering several centuries of verse in English, with emphasis on understanding, appreciating and enjoying the poem as a literary construct. The unit deals with the nature of poetic genres, theories of classification, processes of reading, methods of analysis and key issues in the interpretation of poetry. No previous experience in studying poetry is necessary.

Nil.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.

Exclusions

Students who have successfully completed H239 Studies in Poetry or H239 Poetry may not enrol in this unit for credit.
