EGL308: Shakespeare

This unit addresses questions surrounding the canonical status in literary and theatrical fields of the Shakespearean text and focuses on ways in which power functions in the cultural matrix within which Shakespearean productions, written or performed, occur. The unit will provide students with an introduction to Shakespeare 'poetics', and an opportunity to read closely several plays. The workshop component allows for experimentation with the dramatic text.
