EDU461: Connecting to Students' Lives

This unit provides opportunities for teachers to engage young people in schooling through a curriculum that connects with their lifeworlds and/or the concerns of the communities in which they live. The unit examines some different ways of generating knowledge with students including place-based education, service learning, citizenship education, local literacies and students as researchers. The unit provides teachers with an opportunity to plan a school based research project that pursues the idea of 'community as curricula'.
