EDU424: Critical Pedagogy: Gender, Race and Social Class in Education

This unit explores critical pedagogy both conceptually and practically, drawing on the work of key educators whose praxis embraces a critical perspective.  There is a particular focus in examining inequities in educational practice and provision such as those connected to gender, race and social class, and explores how through critical pedagogy educators might better understand the deeper values, ideologies and institutional structures that lie beneath the surface of practices of teaching and learning.

Contact Time	This unit is available in alternate years. Semester 2 External: No attendance required. On-campus meetings will usually be available. For students enrolled in the summer offering there is a compulsory two-week on-campus attendance.
Prerequisites	Nil.
Exclusions	Students who have successfully completed E421 Gender and Education or EDU408/608 Exploring Critical Frameworks for Education or EDU653/753 Critical Theory and Practice may not enrol in this unit for credit.
