BIO533: Forensic Toxicology and Chemical Evidence (Not available in 2010)

This unit explores the chemical and biochemical principles that underpin the interpretation of physical and toxicological evidence relevant to forensic investigation. Emphasis is placed on the significance of toxicokinetic and toxicodynamic parameters associated with crime-related drug and toxin administration and how those parameters can vary between individuals in ways that can potentially affect legal outcomes. Principles are illustrated with case studies that deal with sample preparation, sources of contamination, quality assurance, interpretation of data and the admissibility of evidence.
