BIO532: Forensic DNA Profiling (Not available in 2010)

Explains the theory and provides practical training in DNA-profiling techniques relevant to forensic science. Explores use of common analytical techniques in identifying perpetrators of crime in context of actual forensic cases. Illustrates and discusses Mitochondrial DNA analysis and its applicability to the identification of disaster victims. Studies the application of DNA-marker technologies to wildlife forensics. Practical classes illustrate the technologies and deal with specimen preparation, sources of contamination, quality assurance, statistical interpretation of data and admissibility of evidence.

Prerequisites	Completion of, or concurrent enrolment in, BIO534 Fundamentals of Forensic Science AND Enrolment in either the Postgraduate Certificate in Forensic Science (Courtroom Practice) or the Postgraduate Diploma in Forensic Science (Courtroom Practice).
