BIO317: Wildlife Biology

An introduction to the theory and practice of studying vertebrate animal populations for the purpose of conservation and management.  Emphasis is on terrestrial wildlife.  Topics: ecology of Australian animals; wildlife and habitat; research design; detecting and studying animal populations; estimating abundance; use of population and ecological data.  Case studies explore the principles of wildlife research and management.   A field exercise in the non-teaching break provides hands-on experience in the capture, handling and measurement of animals and habitat survey.
