BIO252: Immunology, Vaccines and Cell Culture
Explore the complexity of the immune system in health and disease, focusing on vaccine development. Immunology topics include: innate immunity, the lymphoid system, B cells and antibodies, T cells and their effector mechanisms, complement, cytokines, interferons and antigen presentation on cells. Mammalian cell culture topics include: the production of cell-lines, monoclonal antibodies and cryopreservation methods. Vaccine topics include: development, commercialisation, new technologies, global challenges in immunisation. The cellular technologies covered relate to: mammalian cloning, stem cells and xenotransplantation.
