BIO209: Vertebrate Evolution and Adaptation

Classification and phylogeny of Vertebrata, with emphasis upon mammals and fish. In addition to structure and function, life histories of selected groups will be explored. An in-depth literature review and research project will cater for students' explicit aquatic or terrestrial interests. Practicals provide exposure to the groups covered in the lectures and can be used to study a group or topic of particular interest in more detail (project) and develop specific skills, e.g. clearing and staining, dissection, biological drawing.
