AST101: Introduction to Contemporary Asia (Not available in 2010)

Asia contains three of the world's four most populous nations (China, India and Indonesia), the second largest national economy (Japan) together with many of the world's 'tiger' economies, and includes the world's newest nation-state (East Timor). Events in this region have important consequences, not only for Australia but globally. This unit provides an introduction to the social, cultural, political and economic forces, which have shaped post-war Asia. The scope is broad and the emphasis is on recent decades.
