ANS354: Animal Nutrition and Toxicology

This unit provides students with an opportunity to learn about the fundamentals of feeds and feeding, the nutritional biochemistry of vitamins and minerals, the interaction of nutrients, toxins, and anti-nutrients, the evolutionary strategies of poisonous plants, the basic principles of ration formulation for sheep and cattle, and species-specific nutritional principles. The unit will include practical examples of nutrition and toxicology presented by representatives from the feed and livestock industries. Lecture components of this unit will be reinforced by workshops.

Enrolment in Bachelor of Animal Science; ANS251 Agricultural Biochemistry and ANS253 Physiology and Anatomy of Farm Animals.
