ANS101: Animal Production Systems I

This unit provides an introduction to the theory and practice of animal production systems. Animal production will be explored through an emphasis on the principles of energy flows in agricultural systems, an introduction to soils and soil structure, an introduction to plant and pasture science, and a broad coverage of farming systems. Practical classes will utilise the university farm to observe soil profiles, develop skills in recognition of pasture species, and in the handling of sheep, cattle, horses  and pigs.
