Lectopia at Murdoch

Online learning provides flexible access to learning materials and interaction with tutors and other students. Lectopia, working with online materials, has significant advantages for students:

  • allows students to access lectures in times and places of their choice by using MP3 players
  • caters for learners who have a disability
  • caters for learners for whom English is their second language
  • suits the needs of part-time and mature-age students who are unable to attend all face-to-face lectures due to other commitments
  • enables off-campus students to access the same lecture material as on-campus students
  • allows students, particularly those in combined degrees, to take up units they may not have considered due to timetable clashes
  • facilitates exam revision and reinforcement as it allows students to return to lecture recordings to clarify points.

There are three main elements in Lectopia that can enhance the presentation of information to students.
Audio – a slider allows students to locate and replay sections easily.
PowerPoint – has the advantage of colour image, can incorporate tables, graphs and other statistical data, facilitates return to previous slides.
Screen capture – any presentations shown from the lecture theatre computer, visualiser (VOHP) or a laptop are recorded as you lecture. Students can view the presentation in the caster window so you do not need to upload PowerPoint files for each lecture.
