In this course you’ll learn to work using client briefs, study social media strategy, develop an understanding of campaign planning, create media releases and build on your professional writing, editing and presentation skills. You will also learn how to work with the media, including how to write for all different media types and clients.
Throughout your degree, you will have the opportunity to join PURE, Murdoch’s student chapter for public relations, as well as take part in an internship within the industry.
By your final year you will consolidate everything you have learnt throughout your degree and service a real client, applying your skills in strategy development, client management, program research, planning, design and evaluation, as well as budgeting and scheduling.
You can combine Public Relations with other majors, including Communication and Media Studies, Journalism, Web Communication, Tourism and Events, Radio or Law, Business and Society.
This course is accredited by the Public Relations Institute of Australia. When you graduate, you can pursue a career in public relations, and in specialised areas such as public affairs, community relations, media liaison, online communication, corporate communication, internal communication and stakeholder engagement. You’ll find a strong demand for good communications skills and public relations expertise in all sectors, including corporate, government and non-profit.
