In this course you’ll explore the media, religions, histories, politics, economics, sociology and anthropology of the Asian region. You will take core units in subjects such as ‘Asian Centuries’ and ‘Contemporary Asia’, and choose electives in areas that interest you, including ‘Women in Asian Societies’, ‘Society Culture and Ecology in Asia’ or the distinctive units ‘Love and Sexuality in Japan’ and ‘Media, Culture and Politics in Indonesia’.
You’ll develop an appreciation of Asian history and cultures as you learn practical and professional skills that are critical across a range of occupations. Your studies will involve the Asia Research Centre at Murdoch, a centre with an international reputation for its research on the politics, economics, law, history and environment of the Asian region.
You can combine Asian Studies with another course such as Community Development, History, Indonesian, International Aid and Development, Japanese, Law, Business and Society, Global Politics and Policy, Sociology, Sustainable Development or Tourism and Events.
When you graduate, your career prospects could include work in teaching, the diplomatic service, law, public service, business, or journalism in Australia, the Asian region or other locations around the world.
