Step 2 (c) - Checking your Timetable

Depending on your mode of study (Internal or External) and the requirements of each unit, you need to plan your timetable to make sure that you can study the units selected without them clashing.

If all of your units are in the external mode you don't need to go any further on this page, so proceed to the next step, Step 3 - Enrol in your units online.

If you are studying one or more units in the internal mode you are required to be on-campus for lectures, workshops, laboratories, tutorials or a combination of these. The contact time for each unit is recorded in the unit section of the Murdoch University Handbook under Contact Time so be sure to check this out.

For Example: Lectures: 1 hour per week; workshops: 2 hours per week
This means that you must attend lectures for 1 hour each week and will have workshops for 2 hours per week, total contact time each week is 3 hours.

For Example: Lectures: 2 hours per week; tutorials/laboratories: 3 hours per week.
This means that you must attend lectures for 2 hours each week and a combined tutorial/laboratory for 3 hours each week, total contact time each week is 5 hours.

Your Lecture Timetable - finding clashes early

The next step is to check your selected units for timetable clashes. All Lectures, Workshops, Laboratories, etc, EXCEPT for Tutorials, will be listed on the Online Timetable. Once in the Online timetable - Step 1 Select the appropriate semester option, i.e. "Semester One Teaching 2009", from the drop down list. In Step 2 Select "Grid View" and in Step 3 Enter all of your semester unit codes separated by a space. In Step 4 Select your Campus and in Step 5 Select Submit.

From this view you will see if any of your units clash on certain days. Firstly don't worry about the amount of time highlighted here as there are many Repeat lectures and workshops listed that you do not attend. They are just alternative times that you can attend. Repeat lectures and workshops are highlighted by an R in the code i.e. LECT R or WS R. So if you see a clash listed and there is an alternative time with an R code you can still attend this unit. Don't worry if this seems too confusing. This is just an early opportunity to avoid clashes. When we sign up to Activities (Step 4) you will be able to spot all clashes that relate to you.

It is possible that some of your units may clash, for example, the lectures for two units are running at the same time and neither is being run at another time. In the case where two units clash, the options available to you are to choose a different unit or to take the unit at a different campus, in a different semester or in the external mode where available.

If your selected Lectures are clash free this will provide the basic framework for your timetable, but you will be required to enrol in all Workshops, Laboratories, Tutorials etc via MyInfo, our online student information system. This is covered in Step 2(e) after you have actually enrolled in your Units.
