Step 7 - Fees and Charges

Tuition Fees/Student Contribution

Domestic Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students: At the undergraduate and postgraduate level, higher education providers are able to offer the following types of places to domestic students:

  • Commonwealth supported (previously known as a HECS place) - Undergraduate only
  • Fee-paying (non-Commonwealth supported) - Undergraduate and Postgraduate
If you are in a Commonwealth supported place

You make a contribution towards the cost of your education (known as the Student Contribution) while the Australian Government contributes an amount as well. Your student contribution fees may be paid upfront to the University, thus receiving a discount, or deferred and paid back via the Commonwealth Government's HECS-HELP loans scheme.

If you are not in a Commonwealth supported place
You will pay tuition fees, which are not subsidised by the Australian Government. Fee-paying undergraduate places are additional to Commonwealth supported places. These fees may be paid upfront to the University, or paid back via the Commonwealth Governments FEE-HELP loans scheme.

Domestic Students can work out their Tuition Fees/Student Contribution amounts based on the units that they will study, via the Course Fee Calculator.

International Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students

International students are only able to study in an International fee-paying place and must pay overseas student fees. If you are an International student your fees are detailed in your Letter of Offer.

Guild Membership and the Guild Services Fee

The Commonwealth Government passed the Higher Education Support Amendment (Abolition of Compulsory Up-front Student Union Fees) Bill in December 2005. This legislation requires that students have the choice of whether to join the Student Guild and to access the range of benefits and services provided by the Student Guild by paying the Guild Services Fee.

This legislation, combined with the State Government and Murdoch University legislation concerning the Amenities and Services fee, has created two forms of Guild Membership, Basic and Financial.

ALL STUDENTS automatically become BASIC members of the Guild on enrolment. Basic Guild Membership is free of charge and provides you with basic representation and advocacy services.

Students also have the option to elect to be a FINANCIAL Guild member. Financial members of the Guild have access to all services provided by the Guild including access to discounts and support services. If you elect to become a Financial member you will be invoiced by the University within the first 3 weeks of commencement.

Students may also elect to Opt-Out of Guild membership.

Selection of your Guild Membership level can be made via the 'Services' Self Enrolment Step under the Change Enrolments Details tab in MyInfo.

Further information about Guild Services is available at the Guild Membership page.
