Quality Management at Murdoch University
Quality Assurance of Learning & Teaching
Introduction
“Academic quality” in its broadest sense, encompasses activities
and outcomes in all areas of academic work. According to the
Murdoch
University Academic Staff Collective Workplace Agreement 2006 [Clause
36.1],
the scope of “academic work” includes teaching, research,
scholarship, administration
and service to the university and broader community.
Promotions
policies define Teaching and Teaching Development as “all activities
under your control that create and sustain an effective environment for university
learning. …”
Academic quality therefore encompasses the quality
of the learning environment that is available to students. The learning
environment is complex.
The Academic
Quality Audit Committee (AQAC), a standing committee of Academic
Council established in 2001, monitors academic quality within the
University and provides advice on data used to assess academic quality and
standards. AQAC is chaired by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic).
The
Learning and Teaching Committee (LTC), also a standing committee of Academic
Council, makes recommendations on learning and teaching policies.
Quality Assurance Mechanisms

Educational Development unit to facilitate the task of mapping
graduate attributes to units.
Student Support
Course-specific advice is provided by the School offering the major in which
the student is enrolled. Depending on the issue in question, advice can also
be sought from the following areas:
