In December 2005, the Commonwealth Government passed the Higher Education Support Amendment (Abolition of Compulsory Up-front Student Union Fees) Bill. This legislation requires that students have the choice of whether to join the Student Guild and to access the range of benefits and services provided by the Student Guild by paying the Guild Services Fee.
The Guild is the representative body for all students, providing representation, advocacy, services and activities on campus. To find out more about Guild Membership visit the Guild website at http://www.guild.murdoch.edu.au or the Guild Shop on Bush Court.
When enrolling at Murdoch for the first time in the calendar year, students may choose between becoming:
ALL STUDENTS automatically become BASIC members of the Guild on enrolment. Basic Guild membership is free of charge and provides you with basic representation and advocacy services.
Students have the option to elect to be a FINANCIAL Guild member. Financial members of the Guild have access to additional services provided by the Guild including access to discounts and support services. Further information on the Guild services can be found at: http://www.guild.murdoch.edu.au. Financial membership is applicable from the start of the teaching period through to the end of the Calendar Year. Students make their membership choice via ‘MyInfo’. Students who wish to amend their choice after the commencement of the teaching period must lodge the Guild Membership Change Form found online here or at the Student Service Centre.
A student who cancels their financial membership after their first teaching period of the calendar year will still be liable for the fees for the remainder of the calendar year. Students changing FROM a Financial member will not be entitled to a refund unless they have written approval from the Guild.
The annual Guild Membership fee is set out in the table below. Students are invoiced in advance for the portion of the annual fee payable each semester or trimester. For example, a full-time student enrolled at the South Street campus would be invoiced $50.00 in Semester 1 and $50.00 in Semester 2. Students studying courses offered in trimesters will be invoiced each trimester.

The Guild of Students is supplied with the contact details of those students who are Financial and Basic members, and information about enrolment type and student status needed to manage membership. Guild staff are required to treat all information as confidential.
