Campus & Infrastructure Planning

Facilities Planning

Facilities Planning manages and provides a range of physical campus planning services to guide future and present development to meet the University's Strategic objectives on all campuses.

Services Provided :

  • Advice on location for new and future facilities
  • Feasibility and planning studies, including infrastructure
  • Development of the Capital Management Plan

CAMPUS & INFRASTRUCTURE PLANNING

The Campus Planning Section manages and provides a range of physical planning services to guide future and present development to meet the University's Strategic objectives on all campuses.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT SERVICES

The Project Management Services Section is responsible for the continuous management of the University's Capital Projects for the Murdoch, Rockingham and Peel Regional Campus. This Section can provide advice on siting of new facilities and planned developments as well as managing the upgraded refurbishment of existing campus facilities and infrastructure. All Projects are project managed within this Section using a combination of internal resources and external consultants.

SPACE MANAGEMENT SERVICES

Space Management is responsible for advising on the University's efficient use of space. It does this by:

  • providing input into agreements regarding the usage of the Universities physical facilities
  • managing space allocation
  • conducting physical and desktop audits of the Universities assets
  • maintaining plans and other information on room types and occupancy, along with associated standards and benchmarks.
  • assisting Teaching and Support areas to assess their present and future accommodation needs and advising on the best use of allocated space
  • planning and implements refurbishments of existing space on campus.

TIMETABLING

Key Services We Provide

  • Timetabling
  • Ad hoc bookings for:
    • Teaching and Learning Activities
    • Maintenance
    • Staff
  • Space Usage Agreements
  • Audits of Space Usage

The Space and Timetabling Team manages the space requirements of Murdoch University, as well as producing a teaching timetable which accommodates our 1200 unit offerings, 800 teaching staff and 18,000 students. The teaching timetable is created using a combination of extensive data collection from staff and Handbook information using Murdoch’s own Timetable Request Form, and taking into consideration the following:

  • Space Utilisation
  • Core units before elective units
  • FDN lectures before other first year units
  • Access for units with special requirements to appropriate specialist teaching spaces
  • Long classes before short classes

Critical Dates

August 20XX - Timetabling Information is collected from Staff via the online Timetable Request Form, which is open for three weeks.

By 15 November 20XX - Semester 1, Trimester 1, Trimester 2 and Summer timetables released to students online.

Between August and October 20XX - Construction of the draft teaching timetable. April 20XX - Draft timetable for Semester 2, Trimester 3 and Winter released to Academic Staff for review.
October 20XX - Five weeks after the Timetable Request Form closes, the draft timetable for Semester 1 is released to Academic Staff for review.
By 31 May 20XX - Semester 2, Trimester 3 and Winter timetables released to students online
