Science Fiction Collection
Murdoch University Library has an extensive collection of science fiction literature and supporting materials. The collection includes science fiction, fantasy and horror novels by local and international authors, comics, graphic material, memorabilia and ephemera, periodicals and fan publications (fanzines).
A significant component of the Science Fiction Collection is the Leigh Edmonds Collection. Leigh Edmonds was a major Australian fanzine editor, and also active as a publisher from 1968-1986. The collection contains his correspondence with other editors and publishers, the archive of his own publications (more than 500 issues of various titles as published by U-boat Publications) and his organised files of Australian and international fanzines.
The Leigh Edmonds Collection forms a significant resource for to those researching and teaching aspects of speculative fiction and science fiction as a genre and their place as symbols of cultural identity.
Materials are located on both open shelves on Level 2 and in a secure storage area. Due to the disparate nature of the collection, items may be found in other areas of the Library.
Supporting the Science Fiction Collection
In 2011, a trust fund was created with the purpose of raising funds to assist in preserving the state's most comprehensive collection of science/speculative fiction material. Donations $2 and over are tax deductible.
