There may be occasions when you are asked for your MAC address, this is a unique code given to each network card in your computer (not to be confused with an Apple MAC computer).

A mac address is made of 6 pairs of letters&/or number:- 01-05-a6-3b-45-ef.

To find the mac address for a Windows XP (or earlier) computer you need to do the following:

Click on the Start button
Click on 'run'
Type in 'cmd' in the box and press enter (a black window should appear)
In the black window type 'ipconfig /all' and press enter

Scroll down to and you should see a line that says 'Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection X:' where X is the connection number.

Scroll down until you see the line for 'Physical Address', this is your mac address for the network card.

To find the MAC address on an Apple Mac computer:

Click on System Preferences
Select Network
Select the correct location
Click on the 'Ethernet' tab
The mac address is called the Ethernet ID.

If you have any problems finding your mac address or if you have more than one network card please contact the iT Service Desk on 9360 2000.
