About Murdoch University

Where Are We?

Murdoch University's three campuses, Murdoch, Rockingham and Peel, are located in the corridor south-west of the city of Perth, Western Australia. Public transport to the campuses is available, whilst a shuttle bus service operates between the Murdoch and Rockingham campuses. For visitors travelling by car, visitor ticket parking is available.

Campus Locations

Murdoch Campus (South Street)

The Murdoch Campus is located on South Street in the suburb of Murdoch, about 15 kilometres south of the Perth Central Business District and eight kilometres east of the port city of Fremantle. South Street is a major arterial road to Fremantle and forms the northern boundary of the campus, whilst Farrington Road, adjacent to North Lake, provides the southern boundary. The Kwinana Freeway is the main access route to the University for travel from Perth and its northern suburbs, and from suburbs south of Murdoch. The new MetroRail linking Perth to Mandurah, with a nearby Murdoch train station, provides another route to access the Murdoch Campus.

Rockingham Campus

The Rockingham Campus is located on Dixon Road, west of Ennis Avenue and south of Patterson Road, within the City of Rockingham, about 45 kilometres south of the Perth Central Business District and south of the city of Fremantle. Travel to this campus is usually via the Kwinana Freeway, although alternate routes are available from Fremantle and from South Street, Murdoch, via Stock Road and Rockingham Road. The new MetroRail linking Perth to Mandurah, with a nearby Rockingham train station, provides another route to access the Rockingham Campus.

Peel Campus

The Peel Campus is located on Education Drive, in the suburb of Greenfields, within the city of Mandurah and is some 79 kilometres south of the Perth Central Business District and south of the City of Rockingham. The campus is part of the Peel Education and TAFE Campus, co-located with Mandurah Senior College and Challenger TAFE. Travel to this campus is usually via the Kwinana Freeway, then Mandurah Road, although alternate routes are available from Fremantle and from South Street, Murdoch, via Stock Road, Rockingham Road and Mandurah Road. The new MetroRail linking Perth to Mandurah, with a nearby Mandurah train station, provides another route to access the Peel Campus.

Public Transport

The following information on transport to and between the Murdoch, Rockingham and Peel campuses of Murdoch University, should be used in conjunction with Transperth when planning a journey via public transport. Transperth includes a facility to view a map of your proposed journey. The following link to an Australian street directory (www.whereis.com.au), may also assist visitors planning to travel to Murdoch University.

Perth has an excellent public transport system. Buses run regularly between the city of Perth and the Murdoch University campuses and also between the port of Fremantle and Murdoch University campuses.

There are four train routes which run to different parts of Perth. The new MetroRail linking Mandurah to Perth, includes the Murdoch train station near Murdoch University's main campus on South Street, the Rockingham train station near the Rockingham Campus and the Mandurah train station near the Peel Campus in Mandurah. Buses from the Circle Route connect the Murdoch Train Station with the Murdoch Campus on South Street.

For students and staff travelling to the Rockingham Campus from the Murdoch Campus on South Street, the University provides a regular inter-campus shuttle bus service.

Queries re public transport to the campuses of Murdoch University should be directed to the Transperth Infoline on 13 62 13 — Monday to Friday, 6.30am to 8.00pm and Saturday to Sunday, 8.00am to 5.00pm WST.

Transperth SmartRider

SmartRider is Transperth's electronic ticketing system that uses smartcard technology incorporating an embedded microchip and an aerial to enable the smartcard to communicate with processors located on board Transperth buses and ferries and at train stations. The embedded microchip enables value to be stored on your SmartRider card and also allows your journey details and the value of each journey to be recorded and deducted from the stored value on your card.

SmartRider for Murdoch Students

Murdoch University is a participating institution, having entered into an arrangement with Transperth to exchange student enrolment data on any student who applies for a Tertiary SmartRider through Murdoch's appointed authorised SmartRider retail outlet, the Guild Shop run by the Murdoch University Guild of Students.

Murdoch Campus

Direct bus services operate from Perth and Fremantle to the Murdoch campus on South Street, as well as a bus service between the Murdoch campus and the Booragoon Bus Station. From Booragoon it is possible to transfer to buses for Perth, Fremantle and Cannington. In addition, Circle Route buses circle the metropolitan area, connecting universities, main bus stations and some train stations. Be aware that the following timetables may change and refer to the Transperth Journey Planner for current information.

Rockingham Campus

Bus services operate from Perth, Fremantle and Mandurah to the Rockingham Campus. From Fremantle it is possible to connect to the Circle Route bus service, which connects universities, main bus stations and some train stations. Inter-Campus Shuttle Bus Service

A shuttle bus service is available to students and staff and operates during teaching and examination weeks. Currently the service offered is between the Rockingham Campus and the Murdoch Campus on South Street. The service runs return trips from Monday to Friday.

The bus pick up/drop off area at the Rockingham Campus is in front of the Administration Building. At the Murdoch Campus on South Street, the bus arrives at and leaves from the main bus stop on the Campus Ring Road at the bottom of Bush Court.
