Murdoch Campus

Murdoch University opened its doors to its first students at the Murdoch Campus on South Street in 1975.

The Murdoch Campus covers 227 hectares just north of North Lake, about 15 kilometres south of the Perth Central Business District and eight kilometres east of the port city of Fremantle. South Street, a major arterial road, forms the northern boundary of the campus. The Kwinana Freeway is the main access route from the northern and southern suburbs. Buses run regularly between Perth and Murdoch University and, Fremantle and Murdoch University. The Circle Route bus passes Murdoch University along South Street. Buses now travel through the campus connecting to the Murdoch train station on South Street. For information on how to locate and travel to the Murdoch Campus, including maps to use and details of public transport, refer to Where Are We? .

The original group of University buildings surround an open court, known as "Bush Court", on an elevated site in the northern part of the campus. The buildings are linked on the court's sides by broad colonnaded verandahs in a compact design which aims at encouraging a sense of community.

The peaceful bushland setting makes the Murdoch Campus one of the most beautiful University campuses in Australia. The grounds surrounding the University buildings have been landscaped to include predominantly Australian native trees and shrubs. The plants provide an interesting collection of Australian flora which is a distinctive attraction.

Courtyards have been established between buildings, landscaped with exotic shrubs and trees to create pleasant environments for various activities. A Chinese garden, with ornamental pond, waterfall and pavilion, is one of the most peaceful courtyards on campus. The Joglo Rahayu (Peace Pavilion), known as the Pendopo, is located in a open garden area adjacent to the broadway linking buildings on the western end of campus.

Murdoch Campus Courses are offered by Schools of Study.
