Lectures Online
When lectures at Murdoch are digitally recorded, they are made available to students either via Lectopia or via the Electronic Course Materials Service (ECMS) offered by the Library. This service is provided for selected Units.
If you wish to use the computers within the Library to listen to recorded lectures, headsets may be borrowed for this purpose.
When you are advised that lectures for your Unit are available online you should also be given instructions on how to locate the sound files. If not, use the following instructions to locate the lecture sound files.
A: Lectopia
Lectopia uses a streaming audio Web Server to make available digital recordings of lectures for selected Units. Lectures are also available to be downloaded as MP3 or Podcasts.
- NOTE:
- Lectopia should be accessible from locations on campus (eg. Computing Laboratories, the Learning Common in the Library) and, via modem, from your computer at home.
- The
Lectopia Info
site provides information about using a Web browser plug-in (QuickTime Player, Windows Media Player ) on your computer to listen to the sound files.
Access to the sound files is provided by the following path.
MyUnits
- From the Current Students page, select the link to
MyUnits
- Login using your Murdoch Username (ie. Student Number) and Murdoch Password
- A list of Unit Codes and Unit Titles for units that you are enrolled in will display with a link to Lectopia if sound files are offered
Please note that recorded lectures are not provided for all Units.
B: Electronic Course Materials Service (ECMS)
Lectures for selected Units are also being recorded and made available by the Library's
Electronic Course Materials Service (ECMS). This service does not use a streaming Web Server. The lecture sound files are held as digital files that may be downloaded.
- NOTE:
- This service is accessible from computers within the Library and should also be accessible from locations on campus (eg. the General Computing Laboratories and computing laboratories within Divisions/Schools).
- This service may be accessed via modem from your computer at home, but due to the size of these sound files, downloading via slow modem access is not recommended.
- From the Current Students page, select the link to 'Library'
- From the
Library
Home Page, select 'Find' from the horizontal menu
- From the list, select the option for 'Course Materials'
- From the Course Materials page, select a link to Search the Library Catalogue
- Search by Unit Title, or by Unit Code, or by Unit Coordinator
- From the materials listed for your Unit, select 'Lectures'
- From the listing of lectures, select a lecture
- When prompted, login using your Murdoch Username and Murdoch Password
