Salary PackagingMurdoch University offers employees a Flexible Remuneration Program (commonly known as salary packaging). Salary Packaging is an Australian Tax Office approved means of allowing employees to effectively restructure their income. It is an alternative way of being paid by sacrificing some gross salary in return for non-cash employer provided benefits. Salary Packaging works by transferring the way you pay for a service or goods, from post-tax to pre-tax. Effectively, the marginal tax rate that you are on is the saving that can be obtained from Salary Packaging (less any other taxes and charges). You can choose from a range of benefits which will be paid for by Murdoch University on your behalf, instead of receiving gross salary with PAYG tax deducted. Murdoch University recommends staff seek specialist salary packaging advice prior to committing to flexible remuneration. Range of BenefitsBenefits available to you are:
For further information, please email HRSalPack@murdoch.edu.au or call extension 6140. Administration Fee An administration fee of 2% will be payable on all packaged items. This fee will be deducted on a fortnightly basis and will be a pre-tax amount. * Budget Announcement Due to the recent budget announcement by the Federal Government as from 22 October 2012 in-house benefits (Bookshop and Vet Hospital) can no longer be salary packaged. Employees who signed their salary packaging agreement pre 22 October 2012 are able to continue packaging Bookshop and Vet Hospital amounts until 31 March 2013 when they will expire. |
