Murdoch Password Help (Staff)

Requesting a Murdoch Password (New Staff Member)

A Murdoch Password is allocated to a new staff member. It must be collected from the IT Service Desk counter (Level 2, North Wing, Library, Murdoch Campus). A new staff member needs to attend in person, taking with them:

  1. Appropriate identification (with an identifiable photo), eg. Driver's license
To obtain a University Identification Card, a staff member needs to complete the University Card Staff Member Application Form (Word), have it authorised and then visit the Library to be photographed for the card.
  2. A Murdoch Password Request Form
The new staff member needs to complete the section titled 'Applicant's Details' on the Murdoch Password Request Form (PDF). Note: Authorisation is not required when the Murdoch Password is collected by the applicant.

The IT Service Desk staff will:

  1. Ask you to provide a Murdoch Password Request Form
  2. Ask you to display your identification (with an identifiable photo)
  3. Access the Murdoch Password Change (Staff) system
  4. Generate and print on secure stationery a new Murdoch Password (which will have not been seen by the IT Service Desk staff)
  5. Hand you an envelope with your new Murdoch Password printed inside and your name on the outside
  6. Advise you that you will receive email confirmation that your password has been changed (if an email address is registered with your name)
  7. Sign the Murdoch Password Request Form acknowledging that they have sighted the appropriate proof of identity, with an identifiable photo, for the applicant, generated a new Murdoch Password on secure stationery and given the envelope to the applicant
  8. Retain the Murdoch Password Request Form as a record that you have received your Murdoch Password

Staff can use the Murdoch Password printed on the secure stationery, or if they prefer, they can use the Murdoch Password Change (Staff) system and change the password to one that they find easier to remember.

A new staff member who has a legitimate reason for being unable to personally visit the IT Service Desk counter (eg. outside Australia at the time) should follow the procedure for a staff member who is off-campus.

Staff Off-Campus

Staff who are off-campus and have forgotten their Murdoch Password and are unable to attend in person the IT Service Desk counter (Level 2, North Wing, Library, Murdoch Campus), eg. "you are overseas", or, "out of Perth for an extended period", will need to arrange for a new Murdoch Password.

To obtain a new Murdoch Password, contact the authorised agent in your Division, School or Office who will authorise a request for a new Murdoch Password to be generated and printed on secure stationery, on your behalf.

The authorised agent will need to complete a Murdoch Password Request Form (PDF) with your Murdoch Username (ie. Staff Number), your name, and your position title. They are also required to provide their own details and signature.

Your authorised agent may use the Murdoch Password Request Form to authorise another person, the delegate, to collect the envelope containing the Murdoch Password, on your behalf, from the IT Service Desk. The delegated person will need to provide their Murdoch Username (eg. Staff Number or Person Number,) name and signature.

The IT Service Desk staff will:

  1. Ask the delegate, to provide a completed Murdoch Password Request Form
  2. Ask the delegate, to display their University Identification Card (with an identifiable photo)
  3. Check for the agent's name on the listing of MAIS Authorised Agents
  4. Access the Murdoch Password Change (Staff) system
  5. Generate and print on secure stationery a new Murdoch Password (which will have not been seen by the IT Service Desk staff)
  6. Hand the delegate an envelope with your new Murdoch Password printed inside and your name on the outside
  7. Sign the Murdoch Password Change Request Form acknowledging that they have sighted the appropriate proof of identity, with an identifiable photo, for the authorised delegate, generated a new Murdoch Password on secure stationery and given the envelope to the delegate
  8. Retain the Murdoch Password Request Form as a record that you have received your new Murdoch Password

Your authorised agent, or delegate will:

  1. Enclose the secure stationery envelope in a a registered letter and send it to you, or
  2. Phone you, and open the secure stationery envelope when asked to do so by you

The authorising agent, or delegate, must be assured of your identity (eg. by knowing you, or by you quoting your Staff Number to them), before they reveal your new Murdoch Password to you over the phone.

When told your new Murdoch Password, use the Murdoch Change Password (Staff) system and change it as soon as possible to a value known only to yourself.

Due to the insecure nature of email, Murdoch University staff will NOT send a Murdoch Password to you as part of an email message.
