Radio (BMedia)

This major introduces students to live radio broadcasting and audio production in a range of creative formats.  Students broadcast on Radio Fremantle and online, giving them a unique opportunity to experience radio production in a real-life industry environment. Students completing this major will be equipped with a wide range of skills covering reporting, presenting, producing, digital recording and editing.  They will also have an understanding of how the industry operates and of the place of radio in the Australian and global media landscape.

Employment Prospects:Graduates in radio have progressed to successful careers in all aspects of media work both in Australia and abroad. The broad-ranging skills acquired during the course of your degree prepare you equally well for media production as for media-based roles in government, business and education. With genuine live-to-air experience and audio digital production skills, as well as theoretical knowledge about broadcast policy and audiences, radio graduates are prepared for a wide range of on-air and off-air roles in the broadcasting industries.
Special Requirements:Many of the production units in Radio are subject to quota. Entry to Part II production units depends on students' performance (C grade average) in the Part I production unit prerequisites. In certain instances, and at the discretion of the Program Chair, the Part I prerequisite may be waived for students with previous production experience.
