The Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing (Registration) leads to registration in mental health in Division 1 of Register at the Nurses and Midwives Board of WA. The course addresses contemporary Australian mental health issues and provides a unique opportunity of 1000 hours of clinical practicum for Comprehensive/General Registered Nurses. In this collaboration between Murdoch University and Curtin University of Technology, students can apply for a Scholarship through the Office of the Chief Nurse to complete their clinical practicum as salaried employees.

| Special Requirements: | Students must have a level of health suitable to meet the requirements of such a course and meet safe nursing practice. Before commencement of the course students will be required to obtain Department of Health Criminal Record clearance and a CPR Certificate. Some clinical areas may require evidence of immunisation against childhood diseases such as Varicella. Before students commence paediatric clinical practicum they will be required to apply for a Working With Children clearance. |
| Professional Recognition: | Graduates will be eligible to apply to the Nurses and Midwives Board of Western Australia for registration in the category of Registered Nurse (Mental Health). At point of application to the Nurses and Midwives Board of Western Australia, graduates will need to provide proof of having met an IELTS score of at least 6.5 in reading and listening and at least 7 in speaking and writing with an overall band of 7, if their primary or secondary education took place in a country where English is not the native language. Results from tests completed more than two years prior to application for registration will not be accepted. |
