Community Service Based Aid

The Ameri-Corps Program provides full-time education awards in return for work within community service areas. You can undertake this work before, during or after your post secondary education and you can use the funds to pay for current education expenses or repay previous federal loans. Non University based (Private) Scholarships

Non-University based or private scholarships are offered by a large number of organizations. Deadline dates vary and applications may be requested by writing to the addresses listed or calling the phone numbers listed.

Eligibility and funding awards differ significantly and you will need to contact the sponsoring organization directly. Some of these awards may not be available to you whilst you are studying in a foreign country, but this information is only available from the awarding organisation. Airline Pilots Assoc. Scholarship Program

1625 Massachusetts Ave. NW Washington, DC 20036; (703) 689-2270. The Airline Pilots Association offers a four-year renewable $3,000 scholarship to students who are children of medically retired or deceased pilot members of the Airline Pilots Association. The executive committee will also consider freshman college students; high university seniors should apply during the second semester of their senior year. American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)/Accountempts Student Scholarship Program

c/o American Institute of CPAs - Team 331, 1211 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10036-8775. AICPA/Accountemps offer two (2) $2,500 scholarships a year. Eligible students must be an AICPA student affiliate member, a full-time undergraduate or graduate student with a declared accounting, finance or information systems major and maintaining a major grade point average of 3.0. The student must also have satisfactorily completed at least 30 credit hours that include at least six (6) credit hours in accounting. The selection is based on demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, leadership and future career interests. Deadline for receipt of all application materials is before April of each year. American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students

Hispanic Scholarship Fund

55 Second Street, Suite 1500 San Francisco, CA 94105 418-808-3200 1-877-473-4636. The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) is the largest Hispanic scholarship-granting organization in the nation. HSF offers different scholarship programs for students of various educational backgrounds. All applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents of Hispanic heritage. Successful candidates are chosen on the basis of academic achievement, personal strengths, leadership and financial need. Deadline to apply is October 15 of each year. Web site: www.hsf.net .

National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (NSF)

Oak Ridge Associated Universities, PO Box 3010, Oak Ridge, TN 37831-3010; (865) 241-4300. NSF Fellowships are available to U.S. citizens entering graduate study in engineering. The fellowship includes a $15,000 stipend. Special programs are available for women and minorities. The deadline to apply is before November of each year. Web site: www.fastlane.nsf.gov

Rockwell Collins-Dallas Female& Minority Scholarship

SAFE Association Scholarship

c/o Scholarship Coordinator, Embry-Riddle, 3200 Willow Creek Road, Prescott, AZ 86301-3720. A $1,000 scholarship is awarded to full-time upper-class student or graduate student with a 3.0 GPA. Deadline to apply is before June of each year. Please write for an application.

Society for Software Quality (SSQ)

PO Box 86958, San Diego, CA 92138-6958; (858) 571-3112- SSQ offers a $1000 scholarship awarded to graduate students in a computer science or software engineering degree program. The application requires an essay of 1,000 to, 1500 words and must be written in English. The topic of the essay will be selected by the organization. Please apply at the Web site. Society of Women Engineers (SWE)

e-mail: hq@swe.org SWE offers several scholarships to female and minority students enrolled in an engineering, aerospace or computer science programs. The class standing varies depending on the specific scholarship, but ranges from incoming freshmen to junior class standing. The amounts range from $1,000 to $5,000. One application is for all grade levels. The deadline date to apply is before May of each year for incoming freshman, and before February of each year for others, including graduates. XEROX Technical Minority Scholarship

Xerox offers an award to minority full-time students (Asian, Black, Pacific Islander, Native American, Alaskan, or Hispanic) enrolled in a technical sciences or engineering degree program.
