Section 4 SERVER MANAGEMENT
For the purposes of management of Web Servers, this Policy
applies to all Web Servers run on computers on the Murdoch University Network.
Murdoch University Network
Murdoch University Network means a computer network that
makes use of a range of IP addresses registered to Murdoch University for
computers and other network devices that provide access to the Internet. This
Network is available for use by staff and students at Murdoch University with
authorised accounts on University computers and is accessible from computers on
the campuses and via remote access by dialup.
This Policy should be read in conjunction with the
University’s IT Security Policy.
This Policy defines the Web Server management
responsibilities for a number of roles, including the roles of MurdochNet
Coordinator, MurdochNet Administrator, and Web Administrator (See Section 4.9 Responsibility for Web Servers).
The categories of Web Servers defined in Section 2.2.1 Servers, are:
(a) MurdochNet Servers
(b) Affiliated Web Servers
(c) Non-Affiliated Web Servers.
All Web Servers run on computers on the Murdoch University
Network shall be assigned to the category MurdochNet Servers or the category
Affiliated Web Servers. Both categories may include Servers authorised to
perform the role of an Internet Content Host.
Internet Content Host
Internet Content Host means any Server (eg. Web Server, FTP Server) that hosts or provides access to Internet-accessible Content.
