Section 5.7.5.15 Web Liaison Officer

Web Liaison Officer means a role with responsibility for the management of Servers, Content and Links for MurdochNet.

To facilitate the management of their Content, each organisation unit or resource area shall be required to assign a person to the role of Web Liaison Officer.

All Web Liaison Officers should be aware of the potential risks to the University’s good name if inaccurate, misleading, or out-of-date information is accessible via MurdochNet.

A Web Liaison Officer shall be responsible for:

1) coordinating the preparation or production of Content by their organisation unit or resource area

2) ensuring, in conjunction with the Web Administrator for the Server used to host Content, that appropriate practices and procedures are in place for preparing and maintaining Content

3) liaising with staff responsible for administration of MurdochNet, other Web Liaison Officers and Web Administrators re the management of Content including its preparation and maintenance and the revision or relocation of sites.

With respect to University Content or Associated Content for which they are responsible, and in the absence of a Content Custodian, a Web Liaison Officer shall be responsible for:

  1. ensuring that Content provided by their organisation unit or resource area:
  2. a. is authorised, either by them or a Content Custodian

    b. is prepared by an authorised Content Provider, or generated by an approved Web-based application

    c. is assigned an appropriate access level prior to preparation

    d. is accessed in a secure manner, using appropriate access restriction, if it is personal, sensitive or confidential

    e. is Appropriate Content as defined inSection 3.2.1 Appropriate Content of the MurdochNet Policy

    f. includes Appropriate Links as defined in Section 3.3.1 Appropriate Links of the MurdochNet Policy

    g. adheres to recommended standards referred to by the MurdochNet Policy

    h. follows the approved guidelines referred to by the MurdochNet Policy

    i. has been prepared using the Murdoch conventions included in the MurdochNet Policy

    j. complies with University policies and legislation (eg. the IT Security Policy, the Intellectual Property Statute, Assessment Policy, Statement on Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action)

    k. complies with the guidelines associated with the MurdochNet Policy

    l. is current and accurate at the time that either they or a Content Custodian authorise it

    m. includes links that are current, accurate and valid at the time that they authorise the Content.

  3. ensuring that Links within Content:

    a. are reviewed for currency and deleted or revised as appropriate

    b. when appropriate, are registered to ensure that Content for their organisation area is accessible via navigation pages, centrally-maintained indexes and other applications and tools.

With respect to Foreign Content, a Web Liaison Officer may be responsible for coordinating the addition of Foreign Content to a MurdochNet Server or an Affiliated Web Server. Additional responsibilities apply to the management of Foreign Content to ensure compliance with copyright requirements.

A Web Liaison Officer shall be responsible for:

1) ensuring that copyright requirements are met with regard to display of the official Copyright warning notice, the maintenance of associated records for the use of copyright material, and assigning an appropriate access level

2) ensuring that copyright material is removed from computers on the Murdoch University Network, if and when required

A Web Liaison Officer, when instructed by the Director, Office of Information Technology Services, shall be responsible for:

1) modifying or removing Content that:

a. is deemed Inappropriate Content with respect to Section 3.2.3 Inappropriate Content

b. is Non-Compliant Content with respect to Section 3.2.4 Non-Compliant Content.

2) modifying or removing Content that:

a. includes Links to to Inappropriate Content with respect to Section 3.3.4 Inappropriate Links.

NOTE: The roles of Web Liaison Officer and Content Custodian have some overlapping responsibilities.
