Section 3.1.1 Appropriate Use of Servers
Appropriate use of Servers to host Content, or provide
access to Content, is defined as:
Hosting, or providing
access to Content that supports the teaching, learning, research,
administration, public relations, community outreach, and student support
objectives of the University.
All use of Servers inconsistent with these objectives shall
be considered inappropriate.
MurdochNet Servers and Affiliated Web Servers, as defined in
Section 2.2.1 Servers, shall be
used to host, or provide access to the three categories of MurdochNet Content
defined in Section 2.2.2 Content
(ie. University Content, Associated Content and recognised Foreign Content).
Where these Servers are used to access MurdochNet Content
hosted on other computers on the Murdoch University Network (eg. databases, or
Web-based software applications) then the Content accessed shall be Appropriate
Content as detailed in Section 3.2.1 Appropriate Content. The management of and access to these other computers
is subject to the IT Security Policy.
A number of requirements and restrictions shall apply to the use of MurdochNet Servers and Affiliated Web Servers to host University Content, Associated Content and Foreign Content. These restrictions detailed here aim to minimise the risks to the University associated with performing the role of Internet Content Host.
